Hyundai has announced the largest recall of the year, recalling 226,118 vehicles due to a problem with their rear cameras.

The affected models include the Santa Fe (standard and hybrid versions from 2021-2022), the Santa Fe plug-in hybrid from 2022, and the Hyundai Elantra from 2021-2022, with special attention to the Elantra N 2022, which affected 1,186 units. The defect is related to poorly soldered printed circuit boards, which can cause the camera to fail over time.

The solution to the problem is simple: Hyundai will replace the defective cameras with updated design models. Notifications to owners and dealers will begin in January 2025. To date, the automaker has not reported any accidents, injuries, or damages related to this defect.

This recall is the largest for Hyundai in 2024, but still smaller than those from other automakers, such as Stellantis and Ford, which carried out recalls affecting over a million vehicles.

In February, Hyundai had already recalled 186,588 Elantras from 2015 and 2016 to address a problem with the emergency trunk latches, as well as a recent recall of 145,235 electric vehicles due to a defect in the charging control system.
